WASHINGTON -- D.C. United will open the 2015-16 Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League on the road as part of the schedule for the competition announced by CONCACAF. After being drawn into Group H with Montego Bay of Jamaica and Árabe Unido of Panama in early June, United will make its second consecutive appearance in the tournament and opens competition against Árabe Unido on Aug. 19 at Estadio Maracana de Panama in Balboa, Panama.
United then travels back to home turf to host Montego Bay United on Tuesday, Aug. 25, before welcoming Árabe Unido to Washington in the teams’ second contest on Tuesday, Sept. 15. United will then finish group play at the Montego Bay Sports Complex in Montego Bay, Jamaica, for a second date with Montego Bay on Tuesday, Sept. 22. All games will kick off at 8 p.m. EST.
The Black-and-Red will face clubs from Panama and Jamaica in the group stage of the Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League for the second straight year, having gone undefeated (4-0-0) against Tauro F.C. of Panama and Waterhouse FC of Jamaica in 2014. United was knocked out of the 2014-15 Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League in the quarterfinals by Alajuelense of Costa Rica.
Montego Bay United, a three-time winner in the Jamaican National Premier League, including the 2014 title, is making its first Champions League appearance. Árabe Unido is an 11-time champion of the Liga Panamena de Futbol and has made three appearances in the CONCACAF Champions League, pushing into the quarterfinals in 2009-2010 and 2013-2014. D.C. United has never faced either club.
D.C. United (1998) and the Los Angeles Galaxy (2000) are the only MLS teams to have captured CONCACAF titles. MLS participants in this year’s competition also include the Galaxy, Seattle Sounders FC, and Real Salt Lake.
Tickets for D.C. United’s home matches will go on sale Thursday, July 9, at 10 a.m. Season Ticket Members who do not have the ticket in their package can purchase the match at $10 per tickets.
