Bill Hamid, Perry Kitchen named among 2015 Gold Cup provisional roster

United News

Bill Hamid and Perry Kitchen have been named to the U.S. Men's National Team provisional roster for the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup, which will take place throughout the United States and Canada from July 7-26.
Hamid, the 2014 MLS Goalkeeper of the Year, and Kitchen, the 2013 D.C. United MVP, are among the 35 players who will compete for a spot on the final 23-player roster, which will be submitted to CONCACAF on June 23.
Both players have made two appearances for the national team, with Kitchen recently playing against Mexico in April of this year.
Hamid became D.C. United's first homegrown signing in 2009, and later became the youngest goalkeeper in MLS history to win a league match on April 5, 2010.  He was also a member of the 2013 U.S. Men's National Team that won the Gold Cup that summer.
Kitchen, a stalwart in midfield for the last 4 years, became the only rookie in D.C. United's history to lead the team in minutes played (2,726) in 2011.  He has also spent time with the national team at the U-17, U-20 and U-23 levels.
The U.S. opens their defense of the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup on July 7 in Dallas against Honduras, and could potentially play in one of the quarterfinal games in Baltimore at M&T Bank Stadium on July 18.
Should the United States win the 2015 tournament this summer, they would clinch a berth to the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup, known to many as a rehearsal for the World Cup the following year.
