D.C. United captain Bobby Boswell started his 350th MLS regular season match in the 3-1 win over New York City FC on Oct. 16. The 33-year-old marked the milestone with his 18th career goal: a well-placed header into the bottom right corner of the goal to give the Black-and-Red a 2-0 lead in the 31st minute.
Boswell became the third player in MLS history to start in 350 matches; only Kyle Beckerman (376 starts) and Steve Ralston (372 starts) have started more matches than the 12-season veteran. The defender recently reached another momentous milestone, securing his 350th MLS regular season appearance in the 2-2 draw with the New York Red Bulls on September 11.
The 2006 MLS Defender of the Year surpassed 30,000 minutes played when he played 90 minutes in the 0-0 draw against his former club, the Houston Dynamo. Boswell became only the third player in MLS history to accomplish the feat.
Boswell has been a consistent pillar in the history of D.C. United with the center back scoring the club’s 500th goal as a rookie on August 10, 2005. More recently, Boswell scored the Black-and-Red’s 1,000th regular season goal in the form of a 92nd-minute equalizer against Chicago on September 16.
