Washington, DC (Feb. 23, 2022) - D.C. United have acquired $250,000 in 2022 General Allocation Money (GAM) from FC Cincinnati in exchange for midfielder Júnior Moreno. The Black-and-Red will receive an additional $175,000 in GAM if Moreno meets certain performance-based incentives.
“We want to thank Júnior for being such a committed player to the club since his arrival in 2018,” Lucy Rushton, D.C. United General Manager, said. “We wish him the best of luck in the next phase of his career in Cincinnati.”
In 2021, Moreno scored one goal and recorded three assists in 28 appearances (25 starts). His goal on Sept. 29, 2021 against Minnesota United was Moreno’s first MLS goal since joining the Black-and-Red four seasons ago. The midfielder finished the season with an 83.1% passing accuracy in 2,148 minutes played.
Moreno joined D.C. United from Venezuelan side Zulia FC on a permanent transfer on Jan. 2, 2018. In four seasons, Moreno recorded nine assists and scored one goal in 97 regular season appearances (91 starts). The midfielder also played and started in both MLS Cup Playoff matches for the Black-and-Red in 2018 and 2019.
