D.C. United have acquired up to $900,000 in General Allocation Money (GAM) from the Vancouver Whitecaps in exchange for wingback Julian Gressel. The Black-and-Red will receive $400,000 in 2022 GAM, $200,000 in 2023 GAM, and an additional $300,000 in 2024 GAM if Gressel makes three MLS appearances between 2022 and 2023.

In 2022, Gressel recorded seven assists in 17 MLS appearances (16 starts) for the Black-and-Red. He last appeared for the club in the loss against the Philadelphia Union on July 8 at Subaru Park..

Julian Gressel joined D.C. United on Jan. 21, 2020 from Atlanta United. The German made his debut for the Black-and-Red on Feb. 29, 2020 against the Colorado Rapids at Audi Field. In three seasons, Gressel scored four goals and recorded 23 assists in 73 MLS appearances. He scored his first goal for the club against the Philadelphia Union on Aug. 29, 2020.
