WASHINGTON, D.C. (March 10, 2023) – D.C. United have loaned defender Gaoussou Samake and midfielder Jeremy Garay to Loudoun United FC in the United Soccer League (USL) Championship for the 2023 season. The club have the ability to recall either player at any point throughout the 2023 MLS season.
Samake, 25, joined the Black-and-Red on Nov. 22, 2021, signing a two-year contract through 2023 with options in 2024 and 2025. He made his D.C. United debut on March 12, 2022 in a 1-0 loss against the Chicago Fire FC at Audi Field. In total, Samake has made four appearances for the Black-and-Red.
The Ivorian defender started his youth career with the renowned ASEC Mimosas academy before signing with the first team on Jan. 1, 2017. Samake made his debut for ASEC Mimosas on Sept. 20, 2017 in a 1-0 win over Africa Sports in the Ivorian Super Cup. He made 52 total appearances with ASEC Mimosas across all competitions.
Garay, 19, joined the Black-and-Red on July 2, 2021 as the 16th Homegrown Signing in club history. The Virginia native signed a three-year deal through 2024 with options for 2025 and 2026. He officially joined D.C. United’s MLS roster in 2022. Garay made his Black-and-Red debut on April 19, 2022 in a 3-0 US Open Cup win over Flower City Union.
The midfielder joined the D.C. United Academy in 2017 and represented the Black-and-Red at the U-15, U-16, and U-18 levels. He originally signed an academy contract with Loudoun United FC in the United Soccer League (USL) Championship on July 5, 2019 and made his debut with them two days later in a 2-2 draw against St. Louis FC. In total, Garay has made 62 appearances for Loudoun United, scoring 1 goal and providing five assists. Garay represents El Salvador at the national team level and made his debut for La Selecta on Aug. 21, 2021 in a 0-0 friendly tie against Costa Rica.
