Washington D.C. (July 27, 2023) - D.C. United have signed Brazilian midfielder Gabriel Pirani on loan from Santos FC of the Brazilian Série A pending receipt of P-1 Visa and International Transfer Certificate (ITC). The Black-and-Red have signed Pirani on loan through Dec. 31, 2023 with an option to buy.
“Gabi [Pirani] is a bright young talent that will excite our fans with his technical ability and vertical play,” Dave Kasper, D.C. United President of Soccer Operations, said. “His vision and playmaking ability in the final third will complement our current group and give us an extra attacking dimension.”
Pirani joins the Black-and-Red after spending the 2023 season on loan with Fluminense in the Brazilian Série A. The midfielder joined Fluminense on Feb. 28 on loan from Santos FC and scored his first goal for the club on March 8 helping secure a 2-1 victory over CR Flamengo. In total, Pirani appeared in 24 matches for Fluminense, scoring two goals across all competitions.
The 21-year-old midfielder is a product of the Santos FC Academy where he joined at the age of 10. He rose through the ranks and signed with the first team in 2021. The Brazilian made his professional debut on Feb. 25, 2021 as a 46th minute substitute in a 2-0 league loss to Esporte Clube Bahia. Pirani scored his first professional goal the following match on Feb. 28, 2021 in a 2-2 tie against EC Santo André. He then spent the 2022 season on loan at Cuiabá Esporte Clube in the Brazilian Série A. In one season with Cuiabá Esporte Clube, he made 10 appearances and scored one goal before returning to Santos FC on Dec. 31, 2022. Pirani has played a total of 77 matches for Santos FC scoring five goals and recording five assists across all competitions.
