WASHINGTON, D.C. (Aug. 21, 2026) - D.C. United has permanently transferred forward Jacob Murrell to Falkirk Football Club of the Scottish Premiership.

"Jacob is a local talent who came to us as a first-round draft pick and grew into a professional over three seasons with this club," said Dr. Erkut Sogut, D.C. United Managing Director of Soccer Operations. "He gave this fanbase moments they will remember for a long time, and he earned everything he got here through his work.”

The Baltimore native originally joined D.C. United as the seventh overall selection in the first round of the 2024 MLS SuperDraft presented by adidas on Dec. 19, 2023, signing on Jan. 12, 2024, to a three-year contract through 2026 with an option in 2027. He would earn his first MLS start on April 27, 2024, against the Seattle Sounders, playing 75 minutes, and scored his first career goal a week later on May 4, 2024, in the 33rd minute of a 2-2 draw with the Philadelphia Union at Audi Field. Murrell closed his rookie season with one goal and three assists in 27 appearances (six starts) over 866 minutes, adding three appearances in the 2024 Leagues Cup.

In 2025, Murrell scored two goals and recorded an assist in 24 appearances across the MLS regular season, logging 865 minutes. His sophomore season is highlighted by the bicycle kick goal he scored on March 1, 2025, in the sixth minute of stoppage time at Soldier Field to salvage a 2-2 draw against the Chicago Fire. Murrell added a goal in two Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup appearances that season.

This season, he has made eight appearances off the bench and recorded an assist in a comeback win over Orlando City SC, along with one U.S. Open Cup appearance. Since joining D.C. United in 2024, Murrell has played in 65 matches across all competitions, scoring four goals and recording five assists.
