It wasn’t the start D.C. United was hoping for, but a 2-0 loss to the New York Red Bulls at Red Bull Arena is nothing the Black-and-Red cannot overcome.
Of its nine loses this season, five were followed immediately with a win. United scored two or more goals in 16 of its 34 regular season games, 14 of which were wins.

“I do believe in the resiliency of this team,” Head Coach Ben Olsen said in his post-match press conference.
This team, led by veterans like Bobby Boswell, Davy Arnaud, Perry Kitchen, Fabian Espindola and Chris Rolfe, who played his first minutes since beating the New York Red Bulls 2-0 at RFK Stadium on Aug. 31, knows what it takes to win. A disappointing result tonight doesn’t change that fact.
Though the 2-0 loss was a misstep, it’s not the end of D.C. United’s season.
“I have no doubt we will make a real push and make this thing very interesting,” Olsen told media.
Pontius said having already beaten New York 2-0 at home gives him hope. For Hamid, it’s the mentality and resiliency of his squad. The Black-and-Red Captain shares his teammates’ hope and belief.
“We will not hang our heads after this,” Boswell said. “Teams have come back from this before, and if any teams can do it, it’s this one.”
