As a first-round pick, midfielder Nick DeLeon has known only one team, and one home stadium, in his professional soccer career. When asked what he would most remember about playing at RFK Stadium, it was the raucous supporters that turned the historic building into a fortress.
āItās always special,ā DeLeon said of the fans who have filled RFK over the years. āTheyāre a loud bunch and theyāre a rowdy bunch.ā
RFKās cavernous design held in sound that could turn the building into an opposing sideās worst nightmare, and created an atmosphere that could feel like a party with friends as much as a sporting event.
And they always got louder.
āTheyāre there when weāre up,ā DeLeon said, āand theyāre especially there when weāre down. They really make that place special to me.ā
