D.C. United are set to play their 14th match of the 2021 MLS Regular Season against Chicago Fire FC on Wednesday, July 21 with kickoff scheduled for 8 p.m. ET. The Black-and-Red will look to rebound from a hard-fought loss against the Philadelphia Union in their last match and earn three points on the road against Chicago on Wednesday night.
In their last match, D.C. United lost 2-1 to the Philadelphia Union on Saturday, July 17 in a closely contested match. Philadelphia found the opening goal of the match in the 11th minute when Sergio Santos got free on the left wing and finished into the bottom right corner. Bill Hamid made his best save of the night in the 29th minute when he denied a headed opportunity from close range with a quick-reaction save to his left. Yamil Asad nearly equalized in the 38th minute, but his volleyed attempt from inside the box was saved by the Philadelphia goalkeeper. The match went into halftime with the Union leading 1-0.
In the 50th minute, D.C. United earned a penalty after Yordy Reyna was fouled after receiving a pass from a short corner kick. Asad stepped up to the penalty and converted, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way and placing his shot into the bottom right corner. Asad nearly found his second goal ten minutes later, but his shot from outside the box skipped just wide of the left post. The Union restored their lead in the 83rd minute when Kacper Przybylko converted an opportunity from close range off a counterattack. United pushed forward for the remainder of the match but were unable to find equalizing goal and fell 2-1 to the Philadelphia Union.
D.C. United have an all-time record of 24-21-18 against Chicago Fire FC in club history. Their most recent match was on May 13, 2021 when United won 1-0 at Audi Field. Edison Flores scored the lone goal of the match in the seventh minute when he converted a headed effort from inside the box after a cross was played in by Adrien Perez. D.C. United will look for similar success against Chicago at Soldier Field on Wednesday night.
