Story of the Match
After sharing points with Philadelphia at home last weekend, D.C. United find themselves bunched together in the Eastern Conference table with the Union, NYCFC, and Charlotte FC who all currently sit even on 14 points.
The failure to secure all three points wasn’t without its bright spots though. Christian Dájome scored his first goal of the 2024 MLS Season, and rookie Jacob Murrell scored the first goal of his MLS career with a well-placed strike.
The play on the field was promising too with D.C. United controlling much of the match only to see the score level up thanks to an incredible strike from the Union’s Jack McGlynn late in the match.
This weekend, the Black-and-Red travel to Atlanta to face off against The-Five-Stripes who sit just below D.C. in the league table.
Leading the scoring for Atlanta so far this season is Giorgos Giakoumakis who has notched five goals in just seven games played. But the real standout for Atlanta this season has been their defense, which has allowed just nine goals in nine games.
With scoring at a premium this weekend, D.C. United will need to be sharp on both sides of the ball to head back to the nation’s Capital with all three points.
By the Numbers
- D.C. United rank second in the Eastern Conference with an xG of 19.6.
- D.C. United are tied for third in goals scored in the Eastern Conference with 14.
