What to Know?
D.C. United return to Audi Field on the heels of a 3 point away win at FC Dallas. For a midweek match on July, Wayne Rooney's heavily rotated squad put a goal past the Toros thanks to Taxi Fountas' right foot in the 73rd minute, and held onto a 1-0 scoreline through the full 90.
Arriving in D.C. for Saturday's match is Inter Miami CF, who suffered a 2-1 loss at the hands of the Black-and-Red back on June 3 with Donovan Pines and Christian Benteke scoring on the day. After stalling out at the bottom of the Eastern Conference, Miami have announced the signing of Lionel Messi, and appointed Tata Martino as their new head coach. However, neither Messi nor Martino have joined the team on the pitch or touchline just yet.
Last time out, Miami tied with the Columbus Crew thanks to a 90th minute goal by Josef Martinez who has found his shooting boots, scoring three goals in Miami's last four matches.
For D.C. United, the team has seen plenty of players return from injuries or suspensions. Steven Birnbaum captained the side again on Tuesday after missing a match for his red card on June 23, and spending the next match on the bench. And on Tuesday night, Nigel Robertha made a substitute appearance, returning to the pitch for the first time since March 26.
Wayne Rooney and Co. will be looking to defend their home turf against the Eastern Conference bottom-dwellers, and continue to climb the table as the 2023 MLS Cup Playoffs draw nearer.
