The Black-and-Red return to Audi Field this week after securing all three points in Atlanta last Saturday night, thanks to a hattrick performance from striker Christian Benteke.
The clinical performance from D.C. United’s striker vaulted the Belgian into a tie on top of MLS Golden Boot hunt, leveling him with Inter Miami CF’s Luis Suarez and Real Salt Lake’s Cristian Arango with 11 goals each.
Youngster Ted Ku-DiPietro also returned to the starting XI last match after a minor injury kept him from the pitch, and his creative energy and dribbling ability created an instant impact in aiding the offensive efforts of Troy Lesense’s squad.
D.C. United’s attack continued to funnel down the right flank through the likes of Aaron Hererra and Jared Stroud, with plenty of support from midfielder and designated player, Mateusz Klich.
New to D.C. United’s roster, Stroud has shown an ability to provide quality service into the box having logged an astounding four assists in his last two games, which has him leading the entire squad in the category.
The New York Red Bulls are enjoying a successful 2024 campaign so far and currently sit in third place in the Eastern Conference with 20 points due to their 5-2-5 record (W-L-D). That said, D.C. United find themselves within striking distance of leveling the two rivals on points sitting just three back at 17, good for seventh place in the Eastern Conference.
