Story of the Match

D.C. United returns to Audi Field on Wednesday, May 14, to face New York City FC, with kickoff slated for 7:30 p.m. ET.

The Black-and-Red (3-6-3) are eager to bounce back after a disappointing 2-0 defeat against Toronto FC at BMO Field on May 10. Despite having 15 total shots, D.C. United couldn't convert their chances and ultimately paid the price defensively. Before this setback, United had built positive momentum, defeating the Colorado Rapids 2-1 in league play and securing a hard-earned 2-0 extra-time victory over the Charleston Battery in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.

In the recent home win against Colorado, forward Christian Benteke continued his strong form, netting his sixth goal of the campaign in first-half stoppage time. Midfielder Hosei Kijima also found the back of the net, further proving his importance in United's attacking midfield. The Black-and-Red will look to these key contributors to regain their winning form.

New York City FC (5-5-2) travels to D.C. after suffering a narrow 1-0 home defeat against CF Montréal, ending a two-match winning streak in league play. NYCFC, however, remains dangerous offensively with forward Alonso Martínez leading the charge, matching Benteke with six goals so far this season. Additionally, forwards Hannes Wolf and Julián Fernández continue to provide creativity in the final third. Defensively, NYCFC goalkeeper Matt Freese has been a standout performer, tallying four clean sheets and 45 saves this season.
