Story of the Match

Manager Troy Lesesne will be back on the touchline after his team put together an emphatic 3-1 win over the New England Revolution in D.C. Unitedā€™s home opener last weekend.

Spurred on by a Christian Benteke hat trick, D.C. United was one of only three Eastern Conference sides to earn three points on their opening weekend action.

Up now is a two-game road trip, starting with a West coast matchup against the Portland Timbers who put four goals past Colorado in their season opener. Portlandā€™s attack is led by a 22-year-old Brazilian winger who was signed last summer and scored two goals in his last weekā€™s win.

Previous Matchups

Historically, these two Eastern and Western Conference sides have only played ten times in the MLS regular season. Our last clash was in 2019 with the Black-and-Red coming back to the nationā€™s capital with 3 points. The current record is tied at four wins each, and two draws.
