D.C. United (1-4-3, 6 pts.) head north to face the New York Red Bulls in their ninth game of the 2020 MLS Regular Season on Wednesday, September 2 at 7:30 p.m. EST.
The match on Wednesday will be the first time these two rivals meet in 2020. D.C. United hold the advantage in the historic rivalry with an all-time regular season record of 34-30-15 against the Red Bulls dating back to their first meeting in 1996. The two teams played twice in 2019, with the New York Red Bulls winning the first 2-1 on August 21 at Audi Field and the second ending in a scoreless draw on September 29 at Red Bull Arena.
In their last time out, a short-handed D.C. United fell 4-1 against the third-placed Philadelphia Union at Subaru Park. A slow start from the Black-and-Red had the Union up 3-0 at halftime. Despite a much improved second half performance, D.C. United fell 4-1 on the night as Julian Gressel found the back of the net for his first goal for the club since his move this off-season from Atlanta United.
Despite the result in Philadelphia on the weekend, D.C. United handed Homegrown midfielder, Moses Nyeman, his first ever Major League Soccer appearance, as he came on in the 79th minute to make his D.C. United debut. Nyeman, who looked comfortable and dynamic on the ball, was one of four Homegrown players who appeared for D.C. United in their match against Philadelphia Saturday night, joining Griffin Yow, Kevin Paredes, and Donovan Pines.
