D.C. United (2-5-7, 11 pts.) face Atlanta United FC at Audi Field in their 15th match of the 2020 MLS Regular Season on Saturday, October 3 at 7 p.m. EST.
This will be the first time the two teams match up in 2020. In 2019, D.C. United won 2-0 in their first matchup with Atlanta United at Audi Field on March 3 but lost in their second matchup 2-0 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on July 21. Since Atlanta United joined MLS as an expansion side in 2017, the Black-and-Red have a 5-3-0 record against Atlanta and will hope to add to their win tally this weekend.
In their last match, D.C. United lost 2-0 against the New England Revolution at Audi Field on Sept. 27. United were organized defensively and were able to create multiple goal scoring opportunities in the first half. Yordy Reyna, in his first start for the club, provided an offensive spark in the first half for the Black-and-Red. He created numerous chances including a well-hit shot that was saved by the New England keeper in the 22nd minute.
In the second half, D.C. United maintained their defensive shape while the offense continued to create chances and apply pressure on New England. The Revolution found the breakthrough in the 86th minute when Gustavo Bou converted from inside the box to give them the lead. D.C. United fought hard to find the equalizer in the late stages of the match but were unable to find the back of the net. New England then scored a second goal in the 90th minute to double their lead as the Black-and-Red pushed for an equalizer.
In Atlanta United’s last match, they lost 2-0 to Chicago Fire FC. They’ve earned five points over their last seven matches and are currently in 11th place in the Eastern Conference with 14 points this season.
