D.C. United are set to play against CF Montreal for their 18th match of the 2021 Major League Soccer (MLS) Regular Season on Sunday, August 8 with kickoff scheduled for 8 p.m. ET. D.C. United have earned eight points from their last four matches and will look to continue their run of form at home against a tough CF Montreal side on Sunday night.
In their last match, D.C. United won 4-2 against Columbus Crew SC on Wednesday, August 8. United were able to pick up a well-earned three points on the road thanks to two goals each by Ola Kamara and Yordy Reyna. The first goal came in the 19th minute when Yordy Reyna’s pressing from the front led to a turnover and Ola Kamara being through on goal where he finished into the bottom left corner. D.C. United doubled their lead in the 40th minute when Andy Najar found Reyna with a cross that he finished with a glancing header into the bottom right corner. The Black-and-Red’s high press helped earn them a penalty in the third minute of first half stoppage time when Kevin Paredes stole the ball from a Columbus defender and got fouled from behind in the box. Kamara scored from the penalty spot, placing his shot into the bottom right corner. United led 3-0 going into halftime.
Columbus scored two quick goals in the 65th and 71st minutes to bring the score to 3-2, but United responded with a goal of their own in the 74th minute. Drew Skundrich picked up the ball in the midfield and played it forward to Reyna on the right wing who cut in on his left foot and finished to the right of the goalkeeper from just outside the box. The two goals on Wednesday night were Reyna’s first for D.C. United, and the assist was the first for Skundrich in his MLS career. The Black-and-Red were able to stall the Columbus attack for the remainder of the match and went on to win 4-2.
The match on Sunday night will be the 23rd MLS Regular Season matchup for these two teams. D.C. United has an all-time record of 7-7-8 against CF Montreal and boast a 4-2-4 record against them at home. The last time the two teams played was back on June 23 when they played to a scoreless draw at DRV PNK Stadium. United had a season-high 27 shots in that match but were unable to score the go-ahead goal.Â
