D.C. United are set to play against the New England Revolution for their 20th match of the 2021 Major League Soccer (MLS) Regular Season on Wednesday, August 18 with kickoff set for 7 p.m. ET. United will look to rebound from the loss in their previous match as they head to Gillette Stadium to take on the Revolution, the top-ranked team in the league.
In their previous match, D.C. United lost 5-2 to Nashville SC on August 15. United started the match on the front foot when Frédéric Brillant scored the first goal of the game in the third minute from a header at the front post off a Julian Gressel corner kick. Nashville then equalized in the 15th minute when C.J. Sapong's header found the bottom right corner. Sapong doubled his tally with another goal in the 31st minute. Nashville’s third goal came from a shot from outside the box by Hany Mukhtar in the 37th minute. United cut the lead to 3-2 when Ola Kamara scored his 11th goal of the season on a volleyed effort after a clever pass by Paul Arriola in the 41st minute.
United pushed for the equalizer in the second half, but it was Nashville who restored their two-goal lead in the 80th minute from a goal by second-half substitute, Alex Muyl. Muyl then scored his second of the night late in the match from the penalty spot and the match ended 5-2 in favor of Nashville SC.
The match against New England will be the 89th all-time meeting between the two teams. D.C. United boast an all-time record of 40-33-15 against the New England Revolution and will look to improve on that with three points on Wednesday night.
