D.C. United lost 2-0 to the New England Revolution in their 14th match of the 2020 MLS Regular Season.

D.C. United started Bill Hamid in goal with Steve Birnbaum, Frédéric Brillant, Joseph Mora, and Chris Odoi-Atsem manning the backline. Homegrown players, Moses Nyeman and Griffin Yow, started in the midfield alongside Júnior Moreno and Yamil Asad. Ola Kamara and new acquisition Yordy Reyna started up front to lead the line for the Black-and-Red.

United were organized defensively and were able to create a couple of goalscoring opportunities in the first half. Frédéric Brillant led the defense, making a number of tackles and interceptions to keep New England away from the D.C. United goal. Homegrown midfielder, Griffin Yow, excelled down the right side of the field, providing service to the attackers and cutting in on his left foot for a shot on target in the 10th minute. Yordy Reyna, in his first start for the club, also provided an offensive spark for the Black-and-Red and created multiple chances including a well-hit shot that was saved by the New England keeper in the 22nd minute. After a back-and-forth first half, the two sides went into halftime scoreless.

In the second half, D.C. United maintained their defensive shape and organization while the offense continued to create chances and apply pressure on New England. The Revolution found the breakthrough in the 86th minute when Gustavo Bou converted from inside the box to give them the lead. D.C. United fought to find an equalizer in the late stages of the match but were unable to find the back of the net. New England then scored a second goal in the 90th minute to double their lead as the Black-and-Red pushed for an equalizer.

Homegrown midfielder, Moses Nyeman, made his first career MLS start on the night. The 16-year old midfielder performed well on both sides of the ball and helped control the midfield for the Black-and-Red with his composure and range of passing.
