WASHINGTON – D.C. United (9-5-4, 31 points) moved back into first place in Major League Soccer with two second-half goals from Chris Rolfe in a 2-1 win over the New England Revolution (6-5-6, 24 points). 

  • Chris Rolfe scored in the 70th and 81st minutes – his first two-goal game for the Black-and-Red – after former United forward Charlie Davies put the Revolution in front in the 10th minute.
  • Rolfe scored the game-winning goal with a penalty kick after Miguel Aguilar was fouled in the box.
  • D.C. United and fans at RFK Stadium observed a moment of silence in the ninth minute to honor the victims of the tragedy at Emanuel AME Church in Charleston, S.C.
  • D.C. United returns to action on the road at the Chicago Fire on Wednesday, June 24 (Comcast SportsNet, 8:30).



D.C. United snapped its first two-game losing streak of the year with the victory.

D.C. United improved to 5-4-1 in 2015 when allowing the first goal.

D.C. United scored its 13th and 14th goals of the season in the second half.

D.C. United moved into first place in the Major League Soccer Supporters Shield standings, ahead of Seattle (9-5-2, 29 points) and Vancouver (9-6-2, 29 points). 

D.C. United increased its lead in the Eastern Conference to seven points over the Revolution, 11 points over Orlando City (5-6-5, 20 points) and 12 points over Toronto FC (6-6-1, 19 points).

Chris Rolfe scored his fifth and sixth goals of the season to take over D.C. United’s scoring lead.

Rolfe leads Major League Soccer with four game-winning goals in 2015.

Rolfe has scored at least six goals in eight of his nine seasons in Major League Soccer.

Rolfe scored two goals in a game for the first time since July 20, 2013 – when he scored twice for Chicago in a 4-1 win over D.C. United.

Fabián Espíndola recorded his team-leading fifth assist of the season. 

Nick DeLeon recorded his third assist of the season. 

D.C. United utilized its 17th different starting lineup in 18 games.

D.C. United midfielder Chris Pontius was a late scratch from the starting lineup, replaced by Conor Doyle.

Davy Arnaud will miss D.C. United’s next regular season match due to yellow card accumulation.
