United head coach Ben Olsen
On the goals and overall thoughts of the gameā¦
āHamilton made a hell of a play on the set piece for the second goal. For the other one, we didnāt make the right decision going to goal. They had a quick turnover and the ball went to a guy we didn't want to give possession to and he finds Jozy [Altidore] who took a great first touch and scores the goal. When youāre chasing a team with that talent going forward, youāre going to be in a little bit of trouble. The stats are heavy towards them but there are goals out there and opportunities for us. We have to take them. Thatās the story...we have to find ways to win games.ā
On how to fix the offensive problemsā¦
āIf there was an easy way to fix it I would have done it by now. Sometimes it just takes one goal or one guy to get hot to make the play that matters.ā
United midfielder Patrick Nyarko
On the match...
"Itās difficult with these guys and the quality they have, they will always get chances. We made mental mistakes in this game, giving players like Seba [Giovinco] and Jozy [Altidore] many opportunities. It cost us some big chances when we defended but we had control during the game. Overall, [I'm] very disappointed, especially with the game we played, not our system."
On what needs to change to score some goals...
"We are a team built to do everything together. What we do and what weāve done in the past is defend together and attack together. This year we have not been doing that and thatās the basics we have to get back to doing."
United defender and captain Steve Birnbaum
On where United fell off the pace...
"In the second half for sure. I thought we did well as a team, but it sucks to give up a couple goals like that, itās tough."
On the frustration level...
"Itās on all of us as a team, we have to get better and hopefully once we are back in our home field we can get some points."
On how to move forward with the short turnaround...
"We are obviously looking on things we can improve on. Tomorrow we get back in and then we can work on the things that we have to execute."
Toronto FC head coach Greg Vanney
On his thoughts on the linkup between Bradley, Altidore & Giovinco...
"I thought the first half was a little tight. D.C. did a good job at getting numbers behind the ball and clogging things up. We got a little impatient as the half wore on and we started to force some things that lead to some transitions. The quality obviously shows and they are getting sharper and getting used to each other again."
On Altidore's status...
"He is a little sore but we will see how it turns around. He was ok enough to keep going but at one point it didnāt make sense to keep him out there. We took him out but he feels ok as he is a bit sore but he will be alright."
On Giovinco's performance...
"He is very passionate and if you take the passion of a player of a player like that, you strip them of their competitive desire and what they are all about. Sometimes we need to remind him to stay locked in on whatās obviously important but it is tough when you are a guy out there thinking you are getting beat up from time to time and youāre trying to earn your space out there on the field and you get calls either way. It comes with the territory but we like it but obviously without the yellow card."
Toronto FC forward Jozy Altidore
On his performance...
"I feel good. We performed well. I thought we were the better team throughout the whole game. So, itās not surprising coming out with three points."
On the chemistry he has with Giovinco...
"Itās hard for us this year. Teams are playing us tougher. They put more numbers at the back. Teams play us different than they play each other. But we are finding ways to create good chances and score goals."
Toronto FC goalkeeper Alex Bono
On the outcome and D.C. as an opponent...
"We know they are a team that had been struggling but they have the talent to punish us if we give them the opportunity. Tonight we did a really good job of keeping their big players in check and really limiting their chances."
On playing after a long layoff...
"We played our 11 vs. 11 in training we were ready coming into the game and we felt confident."
On the importance of coming back after the loss to New England...
"It was huge. We have a tough stretch coming up and we are trying to replicate what we did in the last stretch and come out and put together a few wins. We have a really important tie with Montreal coming up and obviously that is a priority for us to win the Canadian Championship."
