D.C. United (1-1-2, 5 pts.) recorded a 1-1 draw against the New England Revolution (1-1-2, 5 pts.) in their second group stage match of the MLS is Back Tournament on July 17 at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. United are now 34-27-15 in the regular season against the Revolution in club history.
The Black-and-Red made two changes to the starting lineup from their last match against Toronto FC as Erik Sorga replaced Ola Kamara to make his first start for United, while Oniel Fisher stepped in for the suspended Júnior Moreno. Goalkeeper Bill Hamid made a few difficult saves for United in the opening minutes to keep the scores level. After a back and forth first half with neither team able to take control of the game, the match went into the break tied at 0-0.
United made one substitution at halftime as Ulises Segura replaced Erik Sorga. In the 47th minute, the Black-and-Red created their most dangerous opportunity of the game as Edison Flores got in behind the back four and found Ulises Segura in the box who forced a save from New England’s goalkeeper. The Revolution took the lead in the 51st minute after Adam Buksa got on the end of a deflected shot and headed the ball into the back of the net. Following the goal, United began to find a rhythm as they created a few opportunities and started to control possession. Federico HiguaÃn, leveled the scoring in the 72nd minute after pouncing on a misplaced pass from a New England defender and dribbling past the goalkeeper to make it 1-1.
The Black-and-Red face the Montreal Impact in their final group stage match of the MLS is Back Tournament on July 21 at 10:30 PM ET which will be aired on ESPN 2 and TUDN.
