Forward Wayne Rooney and midfielder Luciano Acosta have been nominated for MLS' Week 34 Goal of the Week. Rooney has been nominated for his stunning free kick goal in the 1-0 win over Toronto on October 17, while Acosta has been nominated for his curling strike in the 3-1 win over NYCFC on Sunday.
Rooney's incredible free kick goal was the game-winner for D.C., and left Black-and-Red fans speechless. The forward said he was 50-50 on whether to shoot, but Rooney curled a perfect strike around the wall and into the upper right corner past goalkeeper Alex Bono's outstretched hands.
Luciano Acosta scored a stunner of his own on Sunday in United's 3-1 playoff-clinching win over NYCFC. After completing a beautiful run and feeding Rooney for the first goal of the day, Acosta got on the scoresheet himself in the 24th minute. Rooney collected a ball at the top of the box and dropped a pass back for a trailing Acosta, who one-timed his strike perfectly to put United up 2-0 early.
Fans can vote for Week 34's best goal until midnight PT on Wednesday, Oct. 24.
