MLS on Monday named D.C. United midfielder Junior Moreno, defender Leonardo Jara, and Forward Wayne Rooney to it's Week 3 Team of the Week for their efforts in a 5-0 rout over Real Salt Lake on Saturday night. The league has also named Rooney as it's Player of the Week!
Rooney scored three straight against Real Salt Lake on Saturday night. He started off his offensive onslaught with a successful penalty strike against former D.C. United goalkeeper, Nick Rimando. Less than ten minutes later the Englishman received a well-weighted pass from Jara inside the penalty box, Rooney took a touch and chipped the ball over Rimando for the second goal of the game. Rooney scored his third of the night to complete his hat trick on the night after a brilliant counter-attack headed by Luciano Acosta and Moreno.
Moreno ended his night with a new career high in assists in a game with two. He assisted on Rooney's third goal by slotting the ball into Rooney's path to cap off a nice counter-attack and also assisted on the final goal of the game that was chipped in by Ulises Segura.
D.C. United will visit Orlando City SC on March 31 at 6:30 PM ET on Fox Sports 1 at Orlando City Stadium.
