Itās been more than two years since the U.S. Menās National Team played at RFK Stadium. That absence is sure to inspire a rousing welcome from Washington-area fans, so many of whom are the backbone of support for D.C. United, when the U.S. returns to host Peru on Friday (FOX Sports 1, UniMĆ”s, Univision Deportes, 8 p.m.).
Here are a few notable numbers ahead of the clash:
24 ā Times that the U.S. will have staged a match at RFK Stadium when the Peru match kicks off, more than any other venue in the country. The rest of the top five: Los Angeles Coliseum (21), Orange Bowl (16), Rose Bowl (16) and Gillette Stadium (14).
2 ā Consecutive friendly matches for the U.S. men at RFK. The previous five visits included three World Cup qualifiers and two CONCACAF Gold Cup games.
3 ā Peruās finish at the 2015 Copa America. Thanks in part to his hat trick against Bolivia, Paolo Guerrero (Flamengo, Brazil) finished as the tournamentās co-leading scorer with four goals.
7 ā Combined goals scored in the U.S. teamās thrilling 4-3 win over then No. 2-ranked Germany in front of 47,359 fans in the 2013 Centennial Celebration game in honor of U.S. Soccerās 100-year anniversary. Not quite 6-4, but it matched the most goals in a U.S. match at RFK, set in a 4-3 win over Saudi Arabia in 1995. And itās worth watching the highlights again.
90+5ā ā Timing of Jonathan Bornsteinās goal in the U.S. teamās 2-2 draw with Costa Rica that clinched first place in 2010 World Cup qualifying on Oct. 14, 2009.
9ā ā Timing of the tribute earlier in the same match for Charlie Davies after his tragic car accident the night before.
8ā Players who have scored for the U.S. at RFK Stadium and also played with D.C. United during their careers: John Harkes, Eddie Johnson, Roy Lassiter, Ben Olsen, Santino Quaranta, Tony Sanneh, Earnie Stewart and Roy Wegerle.
