As D.C. United hosted Teacher Appreciation Night on Wednesday night at Audi Field, XDC Foundation hosted eight outstanding DC SCORES teachers at the match against New York City FC. Additionally, XDC joined T-REX solutions in pledging a $10,000 match toward DC SCORES’ Spring Day of Giving donations.
With the help of that $10,000 match, DC SCORES raised over $38,000 of donations, benefiting the organizations poet-athletes, as well as the teachers and coaches that are helping shape the next generation of leaders in the DMV.
“We are honored to support the DC SCORES program,” Billy Sebell, Executive Director of XDC Foundation said on Tuesday. “We have faith in our children to become leaders, engineers, programmers and anything they can dream to be.”
DC SCORES Spring Day of Giving
DC SCORES has been serving local children since 1994 through soccer and poetry, giving them the confidence and skills necessary to succeed on the playing field, in the classroom, and in life.
Spring Day of Giving, which took place on Wednesday, May 18, is an annual fundraising initiative, the proceeds of which help:
- Eliminate Barriers to Play: provide transportation and access for poet-athletes to play in a soccer tournament.
- Put the “Poet” in Poet-Athlete: supply an entire team with composition notebooks, pencils, and a microphone to practice.
- Provide Year-Round Opportunity: provide supplies for a full year of soccer and writing for poet-athletes to experience the joys of sports, arts, service, and being part of a team.
- Shoulder to Shins: Outfit poet-athletes with matching uniforms and gear for an entire school year.
XDC Foundation & Teacher Appreciation
XDC is committed to supporting DC SCORES teachers and coaches because of their fundamental and sustainable dedication to children in and beyond the classroom.
Of the eight educators that XDC is hosting at Audi Field on Wednesday, five teach at Marie Reed Elementary School, where DC SCORES was originally founded by Julie Kennedy in 1994.
“Community is the heartbeat of XDC Foundation, and educating children today nurtures a stronger community for tomorrow,” said.
