The Black-and-Red family is committed to service and volunteerism to strengthen communities in the DMV area.

United We Serve is D.C. United’s signature volunteer service program where players, partners, front office staff and fans unite to provide hands-on support for community-based projects and organizations. Through our efforts, we will bring people together, lift people up and provide access to essential resources and services.

United We Serve – DC Central Kitchen

In September 2024 D.C. United players, front office staff, fans teamed up with Howard University to serve at DC Central Kitchen ahead of the Truth & Service Classic. Volunteers helped prepare over 8,000 meals that were distributed to over 50 agencies, schools, and community organizations throughout the District. DC Central Kitchen’s mission is to use food as a tool to strengthen bodies, empower minds, and build communities.

United We Serve: Leveling the Playing Field

In April 2024, D.C. United players, front office staff and fans partnered with Leveling the Playing Field to volunteer nearly 60 hours to sort, inventory and organize $15,000 worth of donated sporting equipment and gear. Leveling the Playing Field’s mission is to redistribute equipment to expand access equity within youth sports and recreation programs in under-resourced communities to create a world with no sidelines

United We Serve: City Blossoms

In April 2023, D.C. United partnered with City Blossoms to help prepare the Kelly Miller Youth Garden for spring programming. Joined by First Team Members Russell Canouse, Kristian Fletcher and Jacob Greene, front office staff, partners and fans volunteered nearly 60 hours and helped with activities such as planting, weeding, painting and more. City Blossoms mission is to cultivate well-being through creative programming in kid-driven gardens and providing access to safe, community-led green space.

In November 2022, D.C. United teamed up with S.O.M.E. (So Others Might Eat) to prepare meal and snack packs as well as hygiene kits for our neighbors in need.  Together, D.C. United staff, players and fans packed 2,500 essential hygiene kits and 250 snack packs that will be given to residents through S.O.M.E.’s programming.  Every day, S.O.M.E. strives to break the cycle of poverty and homelessness through a comprehensive Whole Person Care approach.

United We Serve: Friends of Anacostia Park

In July 2022, D.C. United front office staff, players and fans teamed up with Friends of Anacostia Park to help clean and maintain Anacostia Park which is an integral part of our DC Community.  Together, D.C. United picked up 30+ bags of trash and mulched 24 trees throughout the park! Anacostia Park is the largest park in the district and has been in operation for over 100 years as an accessible recreation space in DC.

United We Serve: Capital Area Food Bank

In March 2022, D.C. United front office staff, players and fans volunteered by preparing food donation boxes for families in the DMV. Together, they packed a total of 1,170 boxes of food which will help feed 4,680 people. Capital Area Foodbank is the District’s anchor for food relief and infrastructure by creating equitable access to food and opportunity in the region. Over the last four years, CAFB has been a convener and connector, supporting future financial stability in our DC community.
